WAIRARAPA P. AND A. SOCIETY.
ANNUAL SHOW. The thirty-first annual show of the Wairarapa and East Coast P. and A. Society will be held at Carterton to-day and to-morrow. The* entries and quality of the stock are much ahead of previous shows. Cattle especially will make a fine show. InfLincolns, there is a total of 14 entries, the exhibitors being Messrs W. C. Buchanan, J. W. Compton, A. V. Collins and W. Howard Booth. Mr R. Bremer, of Waverley, will judge the sheep. The Romney Marsh class is very well represented, there being 73 entries, such well-known breeders as Messrs G. E. Allen, A. V. Collins, W. B. Allen, T. P. Allen, W. J. Lovelock, H. H. Wolters, W. Gibson, E. W. Allen, F. T. Meanken, J. G. Oates, Slack Bros., and E. Eagle, junr., being among the exhibitors. £The judge will be Mr P. Mungavin, of Porirua. In Border Leicesters the entries total 28, the only exhibitors are Messrs Slack Bros, G. Sievers, and Nelson Bros. The English Leicester classes are fairly well filled. There are in all 34 entries and the principal breeders exhibiting are Messrs S. R. Lancaster, Siack Bros., W. C. Buchanan and A. Moody. Excellent entries have been received in Southdowns, and the quality ia also of the best. The entries total 80, and the exhibitors are Messrs W. Howard Booth, Nelson Bros., Ellis Bros., J. Knight, S. R. Lancaster, A. H. Rolls, H. Ranish, and F. Wall. There are only 11 entries in all for four classes in Shropshire Downs, those exhibiting being Messrs W. Howard Booth, W. Pisher, C. Campbell, W. J. Lovelock, C. L. Reynolds, and T. Ingley. The entries in the farmers' sheep classes total 75. Cattle will be a feature of the show. In purebred Shorthorns the number of entries total 40. Those breeders exhibiting are Messrs W. C. Buchanan, R. D. Douglas McLean, W. Howard Booth, and Dalziell Bros. Mr W. Hay, of Christchurch, will be judge. In Herefords there are only 6 entries for five classes. Mr A. S. G. Carlyon being the only exhibitor. In grade Shorthorns only 4 entries have been received. Mesrss W. Howard Booth and W. C. Buchanan being the exhibitors. In fat cattle the entries total 8, Mr W. C. Buchanan being the chief exhibitor. Dairy cattle will be well represented, as the total entries number 90. Good entries have also been recieved in the milkers' classes, The entries in pigs total 37. Amongst those exhibiting are Messrs Slack Bros., Enoch Goodin, J. Standen, E. Eagle, junr., W. C. Zabell, C. Morgan, and C. Sayer. The various horse classes are well filled, and there should be keen competition. In poultry about 180 entries havp been received, and the principal breeders in the district are exhibiting birds. The pigeon and dog classes are also well filled. A number of jumping and driving competitions will be decided to-day.
The results of the butter fat competitions held under the auspices of the Society have been made known. The average yield of each cow at the first day's milking was 44.41b5, whilst on the last day it had increased to 45.5Jb5. The total yield of jnilk from the herd of 25 cows on the first day was about l,lo7ibs, and on the lastjday this had increased to 1,1381b5. The winner of the competition was H. Feast's (Ahiakouka) Shorthorn-Ayrshire cow "Maggie," with 86.1 points, W. G. Carey's (Clareville) Ayhshire "Beauty" came second with 83.19 points. The details of the leading cows are as follow :
