WELLINGTON WOOL AND SKIN SALES.
Messrs Levin and Co., Ltd., report as follows regarding Friday's sale:—No wool was otferecl, all now coming to- hand being held for the opening sale of the new sea-on on November 13th. ' We offered 2,200 skins, 650 hides, 600 calfskins, and a quantity of tallow and horsehair. Wool:—We quote —Medium crossbred, 3Jd to 4£d, inferior, 2d to 31d; lambs' wool, 4d to 4^j; pieces and locks, Id tu 3d; good <:;-utchin«s, 3d to 3sd; medium criituning:?, to 3d; seedy and inferior, ljd to 2Jd. Skins. —There wa 5 strong competition, and prices advanced a halfpenny per lb on all good lota. We quote:—Fine crossbred?, 5d to GJd; crossbred. 4d to sfd; dead skins, 2d to 4d; dead hoggets, 2d to 3Jd; dry pelts, ldto3.?d; graen skins, 2s 6d to ss; lamb skins, lOd each. Tallow —Firm. Parcels in shipping order, £23. Tins, £lB to £2l 10s. Rough fat, £lO to £l3. Horsehair:—ls to Is 3d per lb. Horns:—ss to 17s 6d per hundred. Cowtails —Is 4d to Is 8d per dozen. Hides:— We again -brought forward a large catalogue of hides. The market was steady and all offerings were quitted at full current rates. We quote:—Ox hides (heavy), sJdtosld; ox hides (medium), 5Jd to s|d; ox hides (light), 4d to 4£d; cow hides, 4d to l£d; cut and slippy hides, 2d to 3£d; stag hides, 2£dto3Jd; Jbull hides, 2d to 3£d; calf best, 6d to 7Jd; calf cut and slippy, 2d to 4id. Our next sale will be held on Friday, November 6th. Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., held their fortnightly sale of skins, hides and tallow on Friday, when a large catalogue of all classes was submitted to a good attendance of buyers. Competition, especially for skins, was brisk throughout the sale. They quote as follows: —Wool —There was none offering, wool being held over for the first wool sale on November 13th. Sheepskins. — Market firm at last sale rates. The catalogue comprised some of quality considerably above the average. Prices realised were as follows: — Half bred, 6£d to 6fd; fine crossbred, s|d to 6d; crossbred, 4d to 5Jd; crossbred shorts, 3d to 3Jd; crossbred dead 3Jd to 4d; crossbred broken, 3d to 3£d; crossbred seedy, 2Jd to 3Jd; hoggets, 4£d; pelts, 2Jd to 3Jd; lambs inferior, 2jd to 3Jd; lamb skins, 9d to Is Id; crossbred damp, 4s 9d; crossbred salted, 2s 6d to 4s 7d. Hides.—No prime lots offering. The market was firm at last sale rates. Calfskins in particular were in good demand. Ox, 531b to 731b, s±i to ssd .per lb; 421b, 4Jd;cut 3Jdto32d; cow—37lb to 491b 4Jd to 4Jd; cut 3d; yearling —lslb 4|d; steer slippy 2&d; dry hides 3£d; calf best, 6d to 6Jd; inferior and cut 31d to 4jjd. Hoofs, 2s per cwt. Horns, 6s per hundred. Tallow.— Casks in shipping order, 23s 9d; in tins, 21s 9d. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report as follows:—We submitted a good catalogue of skins and hides and a small quantity of tallow, also a few bags of wool. All bale lots of wool are being held for the first wool sale of the season to take place on November 13th. London sheepskin sales opened on Thursday, and advices received by us indicate a rise of Jd per lb in medium and coarse crossbred, which was,fully reflected in our sale to-day. i Hides and calf skins were in good demand at late rates, we quote:—l Sheepskins,—-Half and fine crossbred, ; -s|d to 6Jd per lb; medium and coarse * crossbred, 4fd ■to s£d; dead and damaged skins, Id to 4£d; pelts, 2£d to 4Jd; green skins, 4s to 5s 5d each; green lambs, to lid each. Hides— Ox medium, 4Jd to 4|d per lb; ox, light, 3d to 4d; cow, 3|d to 4|d; t calf skins, sound, 6|d to 7d; calf skins, damaged, Jd to 4gd. Tallow — Shipping parcels of medium mixed, 23 s to 24s per cwt.; odd packages, 21s Id to 22s 6d per cwt.
