LABOUR.
A large proportion of the product of cur combined labour has to compete in the markets of the world with the products of the labour of other countries, which we cannot regulate. Taranaki butter, for instance, has to compete against that of Denmark, and the price received here is ruled by the London market, not by the cost. The farmer hasjto pay for labour and materials, for clothing, part of his food, etc., prices regulated within the Dominion, and if instead of elevenpence he received only eightpence for his butter he would still have to pay the higher prices for hi? requirements. No Labour or other legislation can alter this, therefore Labour should ponder well before seeking to place any further restrictions or disabilities upon those who provide employment.
