FIRE AT TINWALD.

BLOCK OF SHUPS DESTROYED. BY TEL KG BATH— PRESS A if 0 :I\TION*. A3HBURTON, October 19. At Tinwald a wooden block of shops 26 years old, owned by James Gudse'l, in which was carried on a butchery, bakery, drapery, grocery, and ironmongery business, was totally destroyed by fire last night. The place was loosed up on Saturday night, and as far as is known, no one was there till the fire was discovered by a baker at work at the rear of the premises. The fire had a big hold when discovered, and with the exception of a few tools everything was destroyed. The contents of a safe, including deeds, books, and money were charred and made practically unrecognisable. The stock was insured for £SOO in the Royal, a similar-sum covering the Duilding in the same office. Mr Gudsell was absent in Christchurch. The loss is estimated at considerably above the insurance.
