BOROUGH WATER SUPPLY.
Mr G. Laing-Meason, C.E., wrote to the Masterton Borough Council, last evening, m reference to the improvements made at the headworks of the Borough wuter supply last summer. He said the work done had been faithfully carried out by the Borough Overseer, Mr C. McDougall, at a cost of £3OO, or £SO below the estimate. -Mr Laing-Meason said that he had made an approximate gauging of the quantity of water below the intake being drawn from the river, and found that no less than about 4£ million gallons were being discharged into the head race with only two inches of opening at the sluice door, •,7hich, of course, could be very greatly increased if required. So far as the new intake and headrace is concerned, he considered the Council possessed a permanent and pure supply equal to the requirements of a very considerable city, and the quantity [of water which could be delivered into Masterton is practically only limited by the capacity of the carrying mains.
