Mr J. A. Sjverston, in the employ of Mr A. P. Rawson, has received notice that he has passed his examinations as a surveyor with credit, obtaining full marks (100). Rev. Isaac Jolly, of Palmerston North, was nominated by the Auckland Presbytery, last night, states a Press Association telegram, as Moderator of the Presbyterian General Assembly, for the ensuing year. The Rev. J. J. Lewis, of the Palmerston North Methodist Church, has accepted a call to Nelson, and the Rev.' Hugh Beggs, of the same community* retires by effluxion of time, and probably takes up a charge atAddington, Chris', church. Mrs Brennan, wife of Mr James Brennan, the well-known sportsman and proprietor of the National Amphitheatre, Sydney, and lessee of the Gaiety Theatre, Melbourne, died recently. Mr Sydney Brennan, one of the sons., is treasurer of the National Amphitheatre, while another son, Mr Herbert Brennan, is well-known iii racing circles. The Hin. W. Hall-Jones has been forwarded the following resolution by the Government Railway Superannu- . ation Fund Board—"The members of the New Zealand Government Rail- , ways Superannuation Fund Board, while regretting the loss of the services of the Hon. W. Hall-Jones to the board consequent on his appointment to the important post of High Commissioner for the Dominion of New Zealand, congratulate him on receiving the appointment to that :high office, and feel confident that the ability and singleness of aim •which have invariably distinguished »hJ'm in the performance of his responsible duties in New Zealand will •continue to be shown in his new carreer."
