The tendency of our colonial politics to fill the parliamentary benches with mere party supporters can only be effectively counteracted by a determination on the part of the electors to exercise the right and discharge the duty of sending to Wellington the best men who ask their suffrages. Unless this is done we shall find that the tyranny of a political oligarchy will become as pronounced under a nominal democracy as it ever was under any other form of government.
