Received October 12, 10.20 a.m. THURSDAY ISLAND, October 12. The Chinese junk seen lying in Newcastle Bay, York Peninsula, has arrived here. She originally came from San Francisco, out lately from Tahiti. The captain,, named Williams, tried to go round th 9 Horn, but f the rudder of the junk: was damaged, and the vessel made her way to Thursday Island. Her destination is Shanghai. The captain has a wife and daugh* ter aboard. The vessel is manned by whites, and there is nothing suspicious about her.
