THE WHANGAPE'S DRIFT.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS.

By Telegraph —Press Association. . AUCKLA'ND, October 12.

The steamer Century, which arrived at Fiji this morning, brings further nows of the drift of the Union Company's steamer Whangape. When taken in tow by the Tofua, the Whangape was under slow steam. The first attempt to couple the broken shaft was unsuccessful, but a good result was obtained at the second attempt. ! The Whangape was off an island north-west of Fiji when the Tofua sighted her. The Whangape encountered fair weather while adrift, and those on board were not subjected to any great hardships. The Whangape's drift was N.N. W,—quite the opposite direction to that in which: the search vessels expected to find her.
