MASTERTON MUNICIPAL BATHS.
REGULATING HOURS FOR BATHING. With the demands for swimming accommodation made by the members of the Wairarapa Amateur Swimmina Club, the Masterton Ladies' Swimming Club and the scholars of the Masterton District High School and the Catholic School, besides the general public, the Borough Council recognised they had no light task ahead of them to arrange suitable bathing hours during the coming season. Last year the hours fixed were not regarded as altogether satisfactory by the ladies, and the Council therefore delegated Crs Haughey, Prentice and Elliott to confer with various representatives of swimming bodies to compile if possible, a schedule of hours. A conference was therefore held in the Council Chambers last night. There were present—Crs Hauerhey (in the chair), Prentice and Elliott, Mesdames Blackman and Noble-Campbell and Miss Gillespie (Masterton Ladies' Swimming Club), Me?srs E. R. B. Daniel, VV. Ureu and R. V Hosking (Wairarapa Amateur Swimming Club), Mr W. H. Jackson (District High School), Mr M. C. O'Connell (Roman Catholic School).
Cr Haughey explained that the Council had thought it best to ask delegates to mot a fub-committee of the Council and gi"e their views on the hours, etc., to be observed for bathing during the coming season in the public baths. After some discussion Cr Elliott moved that the recommendation of the Wairarapa Amateur Swimming Club be out before the Council as being entirely suitable —The motion was seconded by Mr E. R. B. Daniel and carried unanimously.
These recommendations were as follow: — Monday—Gents, 6 a.m. to 9.30 a.m. and 4 to 8 p.m.; ladies, 9.30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday—Gents, 9.30 a.m. to 4 p.m.; ladies, 6 a.m. to 9.30 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday—Gents, 9.30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; ladies, 6 a.m. to 9.30 a.m. and R p.m. to 8 p.m. ThufSdfiy--G«n,fc, 6 a.fin, to ?39 p.m. and 5 p.m. k* ?? With regard to Sunday bathing in the baths it was decided unanimously on the motion of Dr. R. Hosking, that the Council should close the baths to swimmers on that day, so as to give an opportunity to the custodian to empty and re fill the bath. §Dr. Hosking moved (as the Councillors present desired an expression of opi-ion) that the baths should be opened from 6 a.m. on Thursday next. This was carried unanimously.
