Mr J. C. Boddington reports that the rainfall registered at Upper Plain for the 24 hours up till 9 a.m. on Wednesday was 59 points, 31 points of which fell during the dovvn■pour on Tuesday evening. \ By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, October 7. The following is Captain Edwin's forecast to 3 p m. to-morrowEx-.pect -south-easw gale between East Cape and Napier; moderate to strong - "Southerly winds elsewhere in the Norht Island, but changing to northward in places southward of Wangaiiui and Napier after fifteen hours. Strong northerly winds are probable soon over the South Island. Weathfr generally unsettled. Barometer rising tendency north of Napier, and falling elsewhere.
