ADVANCES TO SETTLERS.
The Premier stated in the House of Representatives on Wednesday night that the money lent by the Ad vances to Settlers] Department had been/ distributed as followsAuck--859; Hawke's lington, £2,271,000; Nelsjn, £170,435; Westland, £123,400; Cjnterbury, £695,000; Otago and Southland, £1,431,930. The total applicants had been 24,541, and the total advances £8,894,690. The total amount raised ud to djte by the Government for investment was £4,535,000. In the Workers Depart- . ment the figures were as follow: Auckland, applicants 454, advances £110,515; Taranaki, applicants GO, advances £14,25§; Hawke's Bay, applicant, 99, advances £25,360; Wellington, applicants 428, advances £111,550; Marlborough, applicants 65, advances £16,295; Nelson, applicants 56, advances £1,215; Westland, i applicants 35, advances £15,070; ' Canterbury, applicants 433, adI Vances £112,595; Otago, applicants 235, advances £56,680. Thus, to September 3rd last, 1,915 applicants had received advances totalling £482,035. ;
