POLITICAL APATHY.
If the peDpla want a stroig Government and a strong Opposition, forming together a strong Parliament, they must wake up thcmselvee, study public questions, and induce men pf brains, of enthusiasm, and of sincerity to offer themselves for the burden of public life. The historian, Mr A. E. Freeman, has pointed out that in early Britain the popular assembly died down from natural causes which may operab to-day. A great many people got tired, and said "We will leave theie things to those rascal the politicians." The people that is too sluggish to watch its politicians, remarks the "Timaru Herald," is already on the road to ruin.
