At the court martial the seaman, Millen, pleaded guilty to throwing overboard gun fittings belonging to the warship Gibraltar, and was sentenced to two years' imprisonment. CABLE V. WIRELESS TELEGRAPHY. Received October 1, 9.45 a.m. MELBOURNE,October J. Giving evidence before the Postal Commission, Mr Hesketh, Chief Elec'rical Engineer, said he considered wireless telegraphy suitable, but not commercially justifiable, at present. There would not be any proper return for the outlay. Cable traffic was beyond the capacity of wireless. A BILL WITHDRAWN. Received October 1, 10.45 a.m. MELBOURNE, October 1. The State Government has adopted the Land Valuation Bill, over which a political crisis was threatened, Sir Thomas Bent, the Premier, withdrawing the measure without consulting his colleagues. AMERICAN CRUISER SQUADRON. Received Oetober 2, 1.24 a.m. SYDNEY, October 2. Reuter has received advice from Samoa that the American cruiser squadron does not visit Auckland or Australia ADA CROSSLEY. Received October 2, 12.45 a.m. SYDNEY, October 1. A-da Crossley received an enthusiastic reception in the Town Hall tonight. There was an immense audience.
