Speaking, yesterday, at Wellington, at the sitting of the Maori Land Commission, which is dealing with certain Native matters, including the Arakei leases at Auckland, the Chief Justice (Sir Robert Stout) said that there was nD use saying anything about the Natives being satisfied with the amount of rent they received for their lands. His experience bad convinced him that Maoris did net know the value of their land, and in his opinion the only fair way of dealing with such cases was to put. them uu to auction, for the Maori had no chance at all with the shrewd smart business man.
