ATUA'S FRUITLESS SEARCH. By Telegraph—Press Association. , DUNEDIN, September 28. The Atua, which, put back from Suva on Wednesday to look for the VVhangape, has returned without finding her. The Atua, it will be remembered, picked up the boat which was sent from the Whangape on the 21st, nud her not having found any trace of the Whangape, although she set out on the search only fortysix hours after the boat had left the disabled steamer, is proof of the difficulty of locating a drifting vessel. The Whangape was then only eighty miles from Suva. The Atua went straight out to where the vessel was la&t reported and steamed 100 miles in search of her, being away two and a half clays. On her return to port, the Union Company immediately chartered the steamer Omra, which left at ten o'clock on Friday night on a searching cruise. The Century, which, has been chartered by the company for some time for cargo carrying, will also be despatched.
