WRECK OF THE LOCH FINLAS.

ADDITIONAL PARTICULARS. VESSEL SINKS QUICKLY. Received September 28, 9.25 a.m. LAUNCESTON, September 28. The vessel lost at Cape Portland was the Loch Finlas, bound from Port Pirie to Callao, Peru. Residents state that about 9.30 o'clock en Saturday morning, the barque was seen coming from the direction of Bocbyalla Bay. She struck the reef, and within half-an-hour had disappeared. On Friday a fierce north-west gale ragei, and running as the vessel was at the time, her bottom must have been torn out. A close search was made for survivors along the coast. Late last night word came that a boat had landed between Cape Naturalist and Eddystone. A few particulars are available. The crew were all foreigners, and numbered twenty-four. Four boats were launched, but all were stove in. Nine men dung to the wreckage. The captain and mate stood by the ship. The last woids of the cap tain were: "Don't bustle, boys; don"t hurry." The boat, with four men, landed about midnight on Saturday. They tramped to Mr Groves's residence, a distance of about eight miles, reaching there at 4.80 this morning. The survivors state that one comrade was seen clinging to the dinghy, and if. saved would be on Foster Islands. The second mate was out of his mind, He was singing hymns and snatches of songs, and then jumped overboard. When last seen he was drifting to seaward, with a belt tud around his neck. The rescued men are Scandinavians. Received September 29, 1 a.m. LAUNCESTON, September 28. No turther details in connection with the wreck of the Loch Finlas have yet been received. ADELAIDE, September 28. The Loch Finlas' cargo consisted of wheat valued at £27,000.
