Hearst, the well-known newspaper proprietor and founder of the National Party, which wished to nominate him for the Presidency, and who recently accused both the Republican and Democratic parties of being servile tools of the Trusts, has published additional letters showing that eminent Republican ar.d Democratic politicians tendered legislative service to financial corporations upon a oasis of financial support. These disclosures have evoked frantic expressions of public disgust. S?s)iator Foraker has declared that Mr W. H. Taft, United States Secretary of War, consorted with the Stanard Oil Company-magnates and that President Roosevelt's conduct since Mr Hearst's charges were made indicates a guilty conscience. Democrats have accused Mr Cornelius Bliss, Treasurer of the Republican National Party, on behalf of Mr Cortelyon, Chairman of the Republican National Committee, of levying a contribution of £20,000 sterling upon Messrs Rogers and Archbold, representing the Standard Oil Company, on t\w understanding that the Anti-Trust Act would be administrated liss harshly, cowards the corporation. ••-■•'- - '"■ The Democrats admit; that President Rncsevelt had directed the Committee to return the money, but the money, they contend, was spent nevertheless, and a little later the Standard Oil Company was requested to furnish £50,000 more. Mr Rogers declined, intimating that he had never received back the £20,000. They have accused President Roosevelt of knowing that the sum of £20,000 had not only bten accepted but used.
