ANOTHER VICTORY.

UNIONISTS WIN NEWCASTLE SEAT. LONDON, September 25. Polling for the election of a member for the Newcastle seat in the House of Commons, rendered vacant by the death of Mr Thomas Cairns, resulted in a victory for the Unionist candidate, Mr Renwick. The polling was as follows: — iMr Renwick, Unionist 13,863 Mr Shortt, Radical 11,720 . Mr Hartley, Socialist 2,971

The Newcastle by-election was necessitated by the death of Mr T. Cairns, Liberal member, who took the junior seat by 18,423 votes, the senior member, Mr W. Hudson, a Labour candidate, polling 18,839. Liberal returned. May 15—Newport (Shropshire), Unionists retain the seat by a Isrger majority (increase 785). Unionist total vote increases by 480, while Mr F. Neilson (Liberal) polls 305 fewer votes than he did in 1906. May 2—Stirling Burghs, Liberal retain late Prime Minister's seat at general election) by majority of 1,361. June 20—Pudsey division of West Riding of Yorkshire (by-elet:tion).Mr Oddy (Unionist) won by 311 votes. At General Election the Liberal candidate had a majority of 3,5C2 votes of the Unionist candidate.
