MASTERTON-TE WHARAU TELEPHONE SERVICE.

At fie meeting of the Council of th 9 Masterton Chamber of Commerce yesterday, a discussion ensued on the letter received from the Telegraph authorities regarding the direct linking up of Masterton and Te Wharau by telephone, instead of continuing the present indirect route via Carterton. Mr C. E. Daniell said that he thought the matter should not be allowed to redt, and the Chamber should make further inquiries. In regard to Mr Hogg's suggestion that a petition should be got up in favour of the direct line, he thought the Chamber should give the petition its strong support. It was eventually decided to instruct the secretary to bring the matter up at next meeting and supply any information then that ha could collect.
