LANSDOWNE WATER SUPPLY.

Yesterday the County Clerk received a report from the Health Department in regard to the Lansdowne Water Supply Scheme. This report will be discussed at the next meeting of the County Council, and until then will not be published, it is rather lengthy, but summarised the effect of it is that the Department withdraws its opposition to the scheme in the light ol the explanation made by Mr L*ii/g-Meason, but reserves the right to require any necessary matters to be carried out. The attitude the County Council will take up, according to the Chairman (Cr W. J. Welch) is that there will have to be something definite before the Council to show that the utmost lequirements of the Department can be mel: by the amount of money authorised to be raised. In view of this the Secretary of the Water Supply and Irrigation Committee (Mr V. Donald) is putting himself into communication with Mr LaingMeason with a view of having the probable requisitions of the Health Department fully detailed, to place them before next Council meeting with Mr Laing-Meason's opinion thereon. The matter will probably see finality at that meeting unless the Engineer considers ths Dtspirtment's probable demands beyond the scope of the loan authorised.
