A BOOKMAKER FINED.

BY TaI.KGBAPH —FItESS ASSOCIATION. CHRISTCHURCH, September 23. John Palmer, a bookmaker, was charged at the Police Court this morning with on September 17th making a bet in Hereford Street. The Magistrate said that the evidence in this case was similar to the many cases which had arisen on the Riccarton Racecourse, where the inference that a bet was being made Was gathered from the actions of the bookmaker. He would impose a fine of £SO and costs. A fortnight waa allowed to pay the fine.
