PARIS TELEPHONE EXCHANGE DESTROYED. Received September 22, 8.42 a.m. PARIS, September 21. The Central Faris Telephone Exchange was destroyed by hre. The damage is estimated at one million eight hundre i thousand pounds. Received September 22, 10.30 p.m. PARIS, September 22. The destruction of the Paris Telephone Exchange has occasioned enormous inconvenience to the city subscribers and subscribers all over France. The latest American central battery system had just been installed at a great cost. It is believed that owing to a defective insulation, a short circuit occurred, causing an .nflammable covering surrounding the Vires to ignite. Fortunately only two hundred women operators were on duty—it being Sunday—instead of six hundred. All of them escaped, though the fire spread with extraordinary rapidity.
