BRITISH POLITICS.

THE NEWCASTLE SEAT. Received September 22, 8.42 a.m. LONDON, September 21. The decision of the United Irish League leaders and priests to vote for the Unionist candidate for the Newcastle seat has greatly improved Mr Renwick's chances. The reasons assigned for this decision are the prohibition by the Prime Minister (the Right Hon. H. H. Asquith) of the proposed procession of the Blessed Sacrament in connection with the recent Eucharistic Congress, and Liberal attacks on Catholic schools. The Countess of Warwick is supporting Mr Hartley, Socialist candidate. Mr Shortt, the Radical candidate, bitterly complains of the candidature of Labour, which already holds a seat at Newcastle.
