VICTORIAN POSTAL SERVICE. Received September 22, 11.30 a.m. MELBOURNE, Sepember 22. The Chief Clerk of the Melbourne Post Office, giving evidence before the Postal Commission, stated that it would require an expenditure of three-quarters of a million to place the Victorian postal service on a satisfactory basis. ACCIDENT AT A MINE. TWO MEN KILLED. Received September 22, 11.25 p.m. MELBOURNE, September 22. A piece of ialling wood at Band and Loch Mine knocked the manaq-er, named Mason, arid a miner, named Collins, from the 600 feet to the 900 feet level. Both were killed. RECORD SURPLUS ANTICIPATED. Received September 23, 12.47 a.m. SYDNEY, September 22. It is understood that when the State Treasurer makes the Budget Statement on Wednesday he will announce a record surplus. THE AEON. Received September 23, 12.37 a.m. SYDNEY, September 22. At a meeting the Aeon underwriters decided that in view of the want of definite information aa to the condition of the wreck to defer action till the captain's report had been received.
