FREEDOM OF THE PRESS.
The "Otago Daily Times" in'strong language condemns the Government's attempt to "gag" the Press of the Dominion. The freedom of the Press should he dear to the community, remarks the "Times," and we shs.ll not be surprised if, in the event of the Second Ballot Bill being passed without further amendment, that what will destroy the effect of the obnoxious clause will be public resentment and indignation, which will be forcibly expressed when the appropriate time comes.
