A STEADY DECLINE.
CANADIAN WOOLLEN INDUSTRY. J ' RESULT OF PREFERENCE. September 17, 7.55 a.m. MONTREAL, September 16. Mr Rolland, in bis presidental ad'dress to the Canadian Manufacturers' Associations' Convention at Mon vtreal, said that under the preferential tariff the woollen industry had steadily declined. . The value of woollen manufactures imported during the year fending April, 189, was £1,400,01)0, and the value for the . year ending 30th April laßt £4,200,000. There had been since 1900 a decrease in capital in connection with ithe Canadian wool production of £720,000; a decrease in the number of hands employed of 2,200; and a decrease in the annual value of the products of £320,000. He appealed to Canadians to insist on an increase in woollen duties in order 'to prevent the extinction* of the industry.
