FACTORY PROSECUTION IN LONDON.
HEAVY FINES FOR BREACHES OF THE FACTORIES ACT. At Wojlwich Police Court recently Ky.nan Graenberg, of Pattison Road, .Pl'u ristead, tailor, was summoned un-' djr the Factory Act for employing girta under the age of eighteen on ~ May 16th, 1908, says the London ki'Diily NeW3." Defendant admitted , that two girls named Cissy Cqlton and Mary Buller. who were under ■life, were at work, but pleaded "not guitly" in the cases of May Holden and Miriam Miller. Evidence was given that two lady Inspectors paid a surprise visit to defendant's factory at five minutes to ten p.m., and foand ithe .four girl 3at work. In her evidence the girl Holden denied that .sha wa3 at work, and said she waa only lookin? on and talking. The Magistrate fined defendant £5, and .53 costs in three cases, and regretted he could not inflict a line in the case of Holden, though from the nature of her evidence it might be than considerable influence had bee:i brought to bear on her. For allowing his factory to be 1 'Overcrowded while overtime was worked Graenberg was finjd i>2, and 7s costs.
