BREAKING RECORDS.

LONG-DISTANCE WALKING. Received September 14, 8.30 a.m. LONDON. September 13. Forty-two competitors, including A. E. M. Rowlands, started a twenty-four hours' walk at the Stadium. T. E. Hammond beat all records after 50 miles—incluuing the 100 miles in 18hr 4rnin lOsec —and finally covered 131 miles 585 yds. Horton was second, doinj 121 miles, and Wakelieid covered lIS miles. Rowlands retired after fiftean hour*' waiting.

Rowlands, formerly of Christchurcn, has won several walking races in England recently. On the Olympic track in June last he covered two miles in 14aiin 14sec.
