PUBLIC HOLIDAYS.
Amendments of interest have been made by the Extension of Commerce Committee in the Public Holidays Bill. The Prince of Wales' Birthday in the Banking Act has been struck out and Empire Day (June 3rd) substituted, while Dominion Day (September 26th) has also been added. Where bank holiday falls on a day other than Monday the holiday shall be observed as a close bank holiday on the following Monday. If the following Monday is also a bank holiday then the next following day which is not a bank holiday shall also be observed as a bank holiday. New clauses have also been added providing that where in industrial award 3 or agreements holidays are provided for the Sovereign's Birthday, Dominion Day, Empire Day or the Prince of Wales' Birthday—whether before or after the passing of the Act—and when any such day so appointed as a holiday falls on any day other than Monday the holiday shall be observed on the next succeeding Monday. The Act is to come into operation on January Ist next.
