HOCKEY. LADIES' TOURNAMENT AT WELLINGTON. WAIRARAPA B DEFEATED. (By Telegraph—Special Reporter). WELLINGTON, September 4. The Wairarapa B—Wellington A match, played at Day's Bay, to day, was a fast and interesting game. Immediately after the bully-off Wellington attacked strongly and good play by Misses McKenzie, and La Roche kept the visitors from scoring. From a line-out in the home team's twenty-five Miss Macintosh got away with a fast dribble down the line, and then cencred, and- from a scramble in front of the goal she scored. The lir3t spell ended Wellington A ... 1 goal Wairarapa B ... nil Immediately on starting again Wairarapa B attacked strongly. Then by good combined' play Miss 0. Richards scored a splendid goal for Wairarapa. The visitors attacked strongly again, and after a fine rush Miss Dagg scored, but the goal was disallowed for off-side play. Soon after by good play Wellington registered their second goal. The whistle sounded no time shortly after, the score being--Wellington a . . 2 goals Wairarapa B ... 1 goal Miss Macintosh was the best player for Wellington. All the visitors played great games. The result of the match was a great surprise here, and the visitors have a better team than they were credited with having. Misses Dagg, Richards and O'Leary were the best of the forwards, and Misses Rayner, McKenzie and Harris played splendid back games. Wairarapa A had a bye. The other matches resulted as follow:—Hawke'a Bay A beat Canter*bury, 1 to nil; Nelson drew with Wellington B, one all. The Wellington A team is considered the strongest team in the competition, and the performance of the Masterton team is a very meritorious one. The team is receivirg splendid assistance from Mr C. Carley, who is acting as coach and manager of the team. To-morrow's games ar j as follow: — Wairarapa B v. Nelson. Wairarapa A- v. Hawke's Bay.
