IMPORTANCE OF DEVELOPING TRADE ROUTES. VIEWS OF ADMIRAL SPERRY. Received September 4, 10.5 a.m. MELBOURNE, September 4. Admiral Sperrv, addressing a gathering of journalists, urged the great importance of developing trade routes. It was, he said, a great misfortune that steam communication between New Zealand, Australia, and the west coast of America had been abandoned. To a certain extent the trouble seemed to lie in the want of traffic, which needed fostering. Australia could not do oetter than to develop her possessions in the Pac'fic and so lay the foundations of a common interest which would make for peace and strengthen the ties of kinship.
