FOOTBALL.
BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION. Received September 3, 10.20 'a.m. BRISBANE, Septeniber3. The Marama, which sailed Vancouver, has the British footballers among her passengers. Mr Hartnett, manager of the team, interviewed, eaid the had been royally treated in New Zealand and Australia. They couid never sufficiently praise the hospitality received. Dr. McEvedy, vice captain of the team, does not return to England. He intends to settle in New Zealand, and practice his profession. The doctor, prior to the departure of the team, received a substantial presentation from his comrades. Received v September 3, 11.25 p.m. FREMANTLE, Sept. 3 Ceylon papers by mail state that the English Rugby Union has refused to consent to a match between the Australian Amateurs and a Ceylon team—it is believed because the latter were compromised through playing the All Blacks professional team last vear.
