PERSONAL.

Mr and Mrs Cockburn-Hood, of Masterton, have left London for Scotland, to stay with Mr and Mrs Handyside.

On Friday night last Miss McKenzie, head teacher of the Hastwell School, was tendered a farewell social by the residents of the district. Miss McKenzie received a presentation from the school children, consisting of a Pilvermounted brush and comb and mirror.

At a meeting of the Southland P -sbytery yesterday, states a Press Association telecram, the Rev. R. Fergusnn, of First Church, accepted a hearty and unanimous call to St. Peter's' Church, Auckland. Mr Ferguson will negin his new duties early in October.

Mr and Mrs J. H. Tatham and Miss K. Bunny (Wairarapa), who left Auckland about tbe middle of March, travelled by way of Vancouver, Niagara, and New York to England, visiting Washington on the way. The travellers are on their way back to. New Zealand by the s.s. lonic, due in Wellington early this month.

Arrivals by the s.s. lonic included, Mr and Mrs J. F. Maunsell (Wairarapa) with their three son?, writes a London correspondent under date July 27th. The voyage was a pleasant one, lut its end was marred by the news which reached Mr Maunsell of the sudden death in New Zealand of his brother who had seen him fpff at Wellington, and who was then apparently in perfect health. Mr and Mrs Maunse'l will remain in London until early in September.* The three son« are to continue their education in England.
