There is no now that Thomas Fitzgerald, who was yesterday sentenced to five years' imprisonment for arson, had been feigning madness for no less thai) nix months, though lie nearly escape 1 on t-ie plea of lun - acy. When Fitzgerald at the gaol, he threw off the mask, and talked quite coherently, saying to the chief gaoler that he only expected to get three years, and that being mad was fearfully hard work. This morning he was ao-icly interested in ascertaining to what extent goo 1 conduct would count in the reduction •of his sentence.
