LORD ROBERTS' EMPIRE CUP. .

BT TKLEGUIAPH—rPBKSS ASSOCIATION. WELLINGTON, August 23. A team of eight lads, all under sixteen years of age, representatives ■of the secondary schools of New Zealand in the competition for the Lord Roberts' Empire Cup, a trophy given to enourage skill in riile shoo ling, fired a rifle match at Pohill Gully this morning. Each set of competitor* has to fire in its own I 'stale, •dominion or colony., as the case may be, during a period of weeks sp«cijfied in the conditions. Up to date the best recorded score is that of the Natal representatives. The New .Zealand team, however, though it fell short of the Natal score by about fifty points, made some creditable shooting, their aggregate being 4HI ■out of a possible 560.
