MASQUERADING AS A WOMAN.

DANGEROUS MODE OF AMUSEMENT. BT TETiKGItAPH —PRESS ASSOCt.VTION. WELLNGTON/ August 28. A dangerous mode of amusement was deviser* by a young man, Denis Wm. Quill, when he took to masquerading in feminine attire through the public streets attired as a woman. Quill was apprehended in Pirie Street or thereabouts lost night shortly after 10 o'clock, and conducted to the police station. This morning accused, defended by Mr Devinei appeared before Mr W. P. James, S.M., at the Magistrate's Court, charged with being an idle and disorderly person within the meaning of the Police Offences Act, and with masquerading in the dress of a woman. In defence, it was urped that accused had not been peen interfering \ with passers by in any way, and had ' donned the strange garments merely as a means of providing himself with a new gaiety. The borrowed plumes exhibited had come in for some rough treatment while accused was being chaperoned to the police station, and were a mass of disorder. Quill assured the Bench that he had bought them cheap, and out of sheer devilment wearing them for a similar fantasy. His Worship pointed out that accused was liable to a sentence of six months for the offence, and admonished him to forego jokes of such a nature. The charge was dismissed.
