In losing Mr D. E. Parton, who has been Secretary since 1902, the Marterton Club are losing one who taking charge of the Club when it was in straitened circumstances worked so assiduously in its interests that it is now on a sound footing, and has been most successful in the football field. It falls to the lot of but few Clubs to possess such a capable Secretary as Mr Parton, and the Masterton Club will experience considerable difficulty in finding a substitute to so ably fill the position. In 1902 a meeting was held in the -Central Hotel at which it was decided to revive the Masterton Club which had been defunct for a season or two. A meeting was subsequently held in the Gymnasium on April 15th when officers were elected and other business done. Mr Parton was appointed Secretary. Those present at that meeting, and who practically started the old Masterton Club again, were : Messrs W, C. Cargill (chairman), D. E. Parton. A. Selby, W. lggulden, F. Peterson, L. J. Williams, E. M. D. Whatman, E. Wrigley, E. W. Payton, G. Morris, A. Millar, B. Iveson and Dr Brugh. The Club started the season with a debit balance of £ls, and now have a credit balance of about the same amount. The satisfactory position that the Club is now in is due to a large extent to Mr Parton's efforts.
