CRICKET.
MASTEaTOn CKICJKET COUNCIL. J A SDecial general meeting of the J Masterton Cricket Council was held j last evening in Messrs James and Welch's room. The following members were present:—Messrs C. Perry (in the chair), Redmond, McKellar, Bewley, Hall, Collinge and F. Welch (Secretary). The Secretary stated that he had deemed it necessary to call a meeting of the Council for the purpose of deciding what course should be pursued in reference to a better water supply for the Oval during the coming season. He had written to the Borough Council asking if they could see their way to supplementing the present water supply, which was quite inadequate for purposes of keeping' the ground in good order. The matter had been referred by the Borough Council to the Park Committee for a report, but the latter had so far not reported on the matter. The Secretary was advised by a member of the Park Committee that they did not intend to report to the Borough Council until the Cricket Council had met the former in committee in reference to matters in connection with cricket on the oval for the season. The custodian (Mr D. Jackson) had informed the Secretary that he had obtained an estimate for a larger and extended water service at the Park which would approximately run to £B. A§ no reply had been received from the Council, it was decided to take no action pending receipt of same, and after considerable discussion the Chairman moved that the Secretary he instructed to write to the ActingTown Clerk asking for a reply to the previous letter. The motion was car ried. The action of the Park Committee in not reporting on the application to the Borough Council was strongly commented on.
