SERIOUS ACCIDENT.
By Telegraph —Press Association. AUCKLAND, August 26. Patrick ..Smith, employed as a ganger on the railway, met with a serious accident near Penrose to day. He was walking early this morning on the track between EUerslie and Pen. ."e, and hetrinc a whistle from the 7.40 a.m. train from the former station, jumped on to the other track right in front of the approaching engine. He was hut led on to the side, and the train being speedily pulled up, first aid was renduvd by a doctor from the H.M.S. Encounter, who was on board the train. Th>j man was then conveyed to the hospital. He is progressing as well us ran he expected, although his injuries aiu serious. He has a buiktn leg, several broken ribs, and his face is budly cut.
