CONVICT FOR PRESIDENT.
MURDERER NOMINATED BY" SOCIALSTd. NEW YORK, July 5. Nomination for President of the U.iited States, of a man who is serving a term of twenty-five years in the Nevada State prison for murder is somathing new in political history, but that is what the Socialist Labour party did to-day. Martin R. Preston, of Nevada, is th; man nominated. He is in prison at Goldfield for having; killed a restaurant keeper named Silver three yotrjago. The candidate for Vice President is Donald tVlunro, of Newport News. Daniel Deleon, in placing Preston's naa'rT* in nomination, and his was the only one mentioned, said he was going to nominate an honest working man, who is now in gaol for conduct of which no working man should be ashamed. Subsequently, acting on the advice of his attorney, Preston withdrew his nomination, as he was frightened his candidature would prejudice his caances of release.
