SOUTH AUSTRALIAN WHEAT. Received August 21, U. 40 a.m. ADELAIDE, August 21. Preliminary official returns estimate the wheat yield at 9,135,000 bushels, an average of 10.1. MOUNT LYELL MINES. MELBOURNE, August 21. The Mount Lyell returns from July 16th to August 12th (inclusive), show that 28,934 tons of ore was treated, also 213 tons of purchased ore. The converters produced 700 tons of blister copper, yielding: Copper 692 tons, 'tilver 52,739 ounces.

One-fourth was found to be more than sufficient for Commonwealth purposes, and the surplus has been paid to the States. The Surplus Revenue Bill, however, provides for the appropriation of this surplusage for defence purposes, old age pensions, etc., and the June portion was withheld from the States, and so allocated.
