RAILWAY EXTENSION.
BY TKLKGKAr-H MESS ASSOCIATION. AUCKLAND, August 21. The Council of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce at its meeting: last evening dealt with a communication from the Whangarei Chamber concerning the extension of the North Island Main TrunK line. The communication states that a conference held at Whangarei on July 16th decisions had been come to that the time had arrived for a united effort by the Auckland members of Parliament to secure a susbstanu'al vote of not less than £150,000 a year for the expeditious pursuance of the; trunk line north of Auckland, from Wei'.esford to Maungaturo,s»nd that the Government should be "asked to build this line before the end of 1909. The Chairman (Mr J. L. Bagnall) described the agitation as one which the members were all in sympathy with. He moved that a communication should be sent to the Government in support of the agitation for theextension of the line. The motion, was carried.
