Without appioaching in a degree the fine display made in honour of the founding of the Commonwealth, the decorations in the portion of the city tnrough which the procession in connection with the visit of the American visitors will pas 3 have been conedved and executed in a highly artistic manner. The city to-night is undergoing a rehearsal for Friday s displays. Tt-ns of thousands throng the streets. Most of the public buildings and private business houses are brilliantly'jlluminated with many-hued lamps. The weather is beautifully fine, and cold. Lord Northcote has forwarded by wireless telegraphy the following message to Admiral Sperry: —"On behalf of the Commonwealth I tender a hearty welcome from the whole of it 3 people to the American fleet, wine.) represents so magnificently our friends and kinsmen of the United States. We hop<s you have had a good voyage from New Zealand and that on arrival jou will receive an enthusiastic greeting from this part of | His Majesty's Empire."
