THE WANGANUI SENSATION.

WANGANUI, August 19. _ A woman named Mrs Letitia Broad, a Dunedin resident, wad arrested by the police tonight on a charge of putting a child in a coalbox on Monday evening. It was alleged that Mrs Broad left Dunedin on Saturday with her adopted child, and came straight to Wanganui, depodting the infant where it was found. She will appear before the Cojrt in the morning.

A talesram from Wanganui on Monday evening stated that an intant, apparently about three months old, was found in a coal-box at the rear of an unoccupied house in Campbell Street. A man working in his gardyn heard cries about three o'clock, but did not take any notice, thinking it was a neitjhour's child. As the cr e3 continred, however, ho made an investigation, with the result that he found the child, and took it to his wife, who is acting the good Samaritan. The child was dressed in a long white gown, and was well wrapped in flannels, and a white shawl. It is healthy-looking and wll nourished. The house where tie chil.l was found is near St. John's, railway station.
