PERSONAL.
At St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Carterton, yesterday afternoon, Miss Jennie Arcus, daughter of Mr T. S. Arcus, of Dalefield, was married to Mr G. W. Hart, son of Mr Wm. Hart, of Carterton. The Kev. L. Thompson, M.A., performed the marriage ceremony. Mr J. Turnbull, a prominent member of Opaki Rifle Club, who has left the district to enter into business at Taihape, was accorded a hearty vote of appreciation for his valued services to the club at the annual meeting of members last evening. It was decided to purchase a memento and forward it on to Mr Turnbull. Mr F. Bright, an old settler of the Eketahuna district, has bought an interest in an Auckland sawmill, and will leave next week. Mr Bright wad a member of the firdt Masterton Licensing Committee elected, and has heid office up to the present time continuously. He has also been a member of the Eketahuna county Council and Borough Council. Mr A. D. Willis, ex-M.H.R. for Wanganui, is lying seriously ill in a private hospital in Mr Willis landed from the steamer on Sunday, and ha ito consulr, a doctor who found that he was suffering from inflammation of the throat Serious symptoms developed rapidly, necessitating an operation being performed, which made a great improvement in the patient's condition. The death occurred at Wellingtin, en Tuesday, of Mr Thomas James I?ei.', eldest son of Mr James Reid, < f Carterton, at the age of 31 years. The deceased, who was a member of the New South Wales Second Conlingent that served in the JBoer War, hud bet'n in failing health for some time. Ha contracted enteric fever while serving in the war, and his lungs became affected, the ultimate causa of death being consumption. A wife and one child are left to mourn their loss. The body was brought to Carterton last night, and will be interred in the Clareville Cemetery this afternoon. Mr J. Dean, of Masterton, sustained a rather painful accident yettfrda>. In driving an express out of Messrs Dalgety and Co.'a grainshed in the morning, the slamming of the gates of the shed, caused by the wind, resulted in the brake suddenly stopping, Mr Dean being thtown out. The horse attached to the vehicle continued to go 'forwatd, with tlia re*uk thajt the gate post was torn away, and side of the brake passed over Mr De-in before he could get char. The sufferer was taken to his home in the ambulance brousham and attended to by Dr Cowie. Mr Dean sustained severe about the body, but no bones were broken. He will be confined to l.ig bed for several days.
