FRIENDLY SOCIETIES CONSOLIDATION BILL.
Certain clauses in the Friendly Societies Consolidation Bill, which haß been brought down this session by the Premier, are not meeting with favour at the hands ofanurn ; ber of Friendly Societies, Clause 15, which provides that before a Society can be registered its rates of contributions are certified to be actuarilly sound, is the clause chiefly objected to. Exception is also taken to clause 16, which sets out that no Society may be registered if its rules are of such a nature that the contributions may be increased at any future time, or if provision is made for any decrease of the benefits. Other clauses j
to which the Societies object are 26 and 27, which will, if passed, not permit of the Registrar passing any amendment of rules which would defeat the object of the above-men-tioned provisions. The Friendly Societies intend to send a stronglyworded protest to the Government on the matter.
