Being well aware of the fact that the running of the through train from Wellington to Auckland shortly will render the acquisition of the IWanawatu railway an absolute necessity, the Government inten.i, as early a possible this session, to get a Bill through to prevent the Manawatu Railway Company making use of certain technicalities in order to retain possession of the line after the twelve months' notice has expired. It is understood that negotiations between the Government and the Company in connection with the matter have proved ineffective, and, therefore, an Act of Parliament is necessary to bring about the desired result.
