TOWN HALL FIRE EXITS.

The question of whether or not there is sufficient provision made fur emptying the dress circle of the Town Hall in case of a fire orothfr alarm was discussed rather seriously by the Trust Lands Trustees on Friday evening. The majority of t'.ie Trustees considered that the existing means of escape were ample, as any apparent insufficiency of exits which might now be experienced through the lauding and stairway becoming blocked when performances are over would not be the case if an alarm of fire occurred, as it is customary for audiences to leave the Hall in a leisurely fashion, and to congregate on the landing. A difficulty might be experienced, however, for persons accommodated in the centre seats or the circle to reach the side aisles in the pell-mell of afire scramble, and what might be worth considering is the suggestion to run a fresh passage from the circle door down through the heart of the curve. It would mean thti sacrifice of a few seats, but would undoubtedly go a long way towards rendering easier thp task of leaving the Hall for patrons of the c rcle. Exper-; opinion consider the Hall as a very safe one, but any suggestion to minimise danger is not on that account beneath consideration.
