The weither was fine, and the ground in good condition. The attendance was about 35,000. A fast, interesting game resulted. The home team won tne toas. As the result of a fine passing bout darken got over. Then Corbett, by a brilliant rush, secured a second try. Burges converted one of the tries, making the scores even. The Britishers warmed up, and fine even play resulted. Just bsfore the whistle sounded the visitors added an extra 3 points to the score, the game ending— Britain .. 16 points Metropolitan .. 13 points AUCKLAND DEFEATS ■ LINGTON. The Auckland - Wellington Rugby Interprovincial football match for the Ranfurly Shield was played here t.:-day in the presence of about 12,000 people. The spectators included Lord Plunket, Sir Joseph Ward, several Cabinet Ministers, and members of both Houses, ar.d the Mayor of Auckland. Auckland won a most sensational game by 24 points to 3. Up to the last quarter of an hour the game was either team's, and then | Wellington suddenly collapsed, and Auckland put on 19 points in 15 minutes. In the first spell Bater scored for Auckland, and R. Magee converted. Alexander scored 8n unconverted try for Wellington, also before the spell dosed, • The second spell was fast and exciting f°r the first half-hour, and then completely routed Wellington. Murray scored a try, which Magee converted. Magee kicked a goal from a mark. Bater scored a try,, which Magee also converted and then Murray and Nicholson each scored tries, which were not converted, the game ending— Auckland .. 24 Welliugton .. 3 Mr J. Williams, of Dunedin, controlled the match in a very able manner.

St. Patrick's College beat Wellington College, yesterday, by 9 points to 6. % The match between Canterbury College and Victoria College ended in a win for the former by 16 points to 9.
